    Spencer,

I recently purchased a Jackson Rockstar. I do most of my boating at the beach and was thinking it would be cool to add removable surf fins to my boat. Bobby at CKS said to get in touch with you about this. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Hi Vic, thanks for getting in touch. You could definitely add some fins to that boat and possibly improve the performance in the surf a little bit. I have done that type of modification in the past on a plastic boat (or are you using the composite Rockstar?) and it worked pretty well. You can use a set of Wakeboard fins. You’ll drill a hole directly through the hull of the boat and the screw goes from inside the boat, down into the fin itself. To get the best performance you’ll want to add a tri-fin setup. If you dont’ want to go with three fins, or just want to try the concept then I’d recommend a center fin located behind your seat. Basically, you want to place the center fin behind you so you get a pivot point from the tail of the boat. A 3-3.5″ fin will probably be best. Now, my best advice would be to skip all of this and get yourself a surf kayak. Let me know if you ever decide to go that route and I’ll gladly help you with some perspective. Have fun out there!
      – Spencer
