Recently I had the pleasure of working with an incredibly professional organization called Blue Ridge Outdoors, or BRO for short. These folks produce a monthly publication that is widely distributed throughout the East in grocery stores, outdoor shops, restaurants and more. Pick one up, its FREE! In the May 2010 issue, pictured below, you can find my article about kayaking the Linville Gorge, which BRO entitled “No Way Out.” The featured photos were taken by Chris Stafford.

Blue Ridge Outdoors May 2010 Issue

Below is what the article looks like in print, and for those who may be interested in the unedited version, there are about 100o additional words. I feel certain that BRO did a great job editing my writing, and that without question, less words are more likely to be read than more words. So, for anyone who is so inclined, you may download the .pdf of the unedited version here.

SURF KAYAKING in PORTUGAL
I competed on the US East Kayak Surf Team at the World Championships in 2009. This video is just the tip of the iceberg in regards to the amount of footage I shot. Hopefully it gives those of you who helped me get to Portugal an idea of what surf kayaking is, and what kind of incredible talent exists in the sport. You might also see that some of the competitors do not take themselves too seriously.

Soundtrack provided by Richmond VA’s Cloak/Dagger

FISHING from KAYAKS and STANDUP PADDLEBOARDS
Hook, Line & Paddle is a paddling retail shop located in Wilmington NC, close to Wrightsville Beach. Every Sunday morning Chris and Ryan, shop owners, head out at dawn for a kayak and SUP (Standup Paddleboard) fishing trip. I was lucky enough to go with them one day last fall and it was an absolute blast. These guys have carved out a really cool niche for themselves. Maybe tons of people are fishing off of SUPs, but I haven’t seen it before.

Check these guys out at HookLineAndPaddle.com
