Two new videos; Portugal Surfing & North Carolina Paddlefishing

Recently I produced two short videos for RapidTransitVideo.com and wanted to share them with those who may not have seen them already.

SURF KAYAKING in PORTUGAL
I competed on the US East Kayak Surf Team at the World Championships in 2009. This video is just the tip of the iceberg in regards to the amount of footage I shot. Hopefully it gives those of you who helped me get to Portugal an idea of what surf kayaking is, and what kind of incredible talent exists in the sport. You might also see that some of the competitors do not take themselves too seriously.

FISHING from KAYAKS and STANDUP PADDLEBOARDS
Hook, Line & Paddle is a paddling retail shop located in Wilmington NC, close to Wrightsville Beach. Every Sunday morning Chris and Ryan, shop owners, head out at dawn for a kayak and SUP (Standup Paddleboard) fishing trip. I was lucky enough to go with them one day last fall and it was an absolute blast. These guys have carved out a really cool niche for themselves. Maybe tons of people are fishing off of SUPs, but I haven’t seen it before.

As before, Effort Inc provides sales representation for Immersion Research and Shred Ready to kayak shops in the southeastern and mid-atlantic regions of the US as well as athletic representation for Astral Buoyancy. This video offers product knowledge on some special pieces of gear from IR and Astral. We stopped at one of our favorite play spots to film these shots. The video is meant to educate and inform the end consumer all the way up the food chain to the buyers at the retail stores about the products we represent. We’ll be back later with knowledge on more products, hopefully from another fun day on the water.

Other notes from recent ventures here at Effort Inc:

I made a stop by ye old outdoor shop, Diamond Brand, to see some of my friends only to find that they have been collecting cool toys and t-shirts. Here is a short photo journal of my exciting visit to yon kayak boutique.

Kevin works at Diamond Brand Outdoors and has one of the coolest shirts known to man.

Ross works at Diamond Brand Outdoors and he works out everyday at lunchtime in his office.

In other news I am nearly finished filming on a new video project with Anna Levesque. Effort Inc’s editing station is about to embrace thirteen hours of footage we filmed over the past month. We plan to wrap this thing up by October and Anna should be putting DVDs into the hands of consumers by Spring of 2010.

Yesterday we were filming at Wilson Creek and Maria Noakes threw a dead fish at Anna. That’s pretty funny, but there’s more. Being a dead fish and all it was pretty slippery, slimy, and fishy smelling… At approximately 10:15:01 AM, Maria made the decision to send this fish on his final journey, not to heaven, but to the lens of my camera. Milliseconds earlier than Maria had planned, the slimy carcass of this delicious bass released from her clutches, changing its flight pattern from its intended target to about three feet to the left, where I happened to be sitting with my video camera, about to press record for a monologue by Anna for the new video. At 10:15:02 AM I began writing this very story in my mind. Now, if you’ve ever been slapped in the face with a wet paper bag of fish slime then you can probably sympathize with the next ten minutes I spent cleaning off my camera, face and hands. We got back up and running, finished filming and had a nice paddle down Wilson Creek. Mind you, my emotional scars are still healing. Aside from her rude friends (Just kidding Maria!) Anna has been a delight to work with and I highly recommend taking a look at her business and products at WaterGirlsAtPlay.com

Lastly, my “Bra” Joey Hall and I are attempting to raise several dollars to cover our expenses to compete in the World Championships of Surf Kayaking in Portugal this coming July.

January 30, 2009, The Oatmeal Conspiracy packs up the band trailer and leaves Garner, North Carolina on a frosty morning. Three brave musicians vow to visit every rest stop between Raleigh and Harrisonburg, Virgina. As a side project they will perform at Clementine Cafe when they arrive in Harrisonburg. Filming with Anna Levesque, Girls at Play

Last week I began filming with Anna Levesque for her new Girls at Play, Whitewater Kayaking Instructional video. We worked all week, filming at Fontana Lake, Nantahala River & NOC, Little Tennessee River, French Broad River, Green River and more. Anna is the most well organized person I have ever worked with on any video project. We hammered through a large portion of her script and shot list in this first week and got to paddle and film with some of the most experienced, professional women in whitewater; Sarah Harper and Maria Noakes to name a couple. These ladies display incredibly crisp, clean and stylish paddling skills and make it look effortless.

Anna’s production schedule is to finish shooting this summer and release her new film on DVD to the retail market in the Spring of 2010. I should be finished editing the film by October, then Anna will have Heliconia Press handle her film duplication and distribution.
