Imagine a Shoe… the Astral Brewer: Footwear Review

Astral Brewer in Black-White

August 6th, 2012
Imagine a shoe that you can wear in your kayak, cling to slippery rocks, hike out of your favorite river gorge, drain, dry, and wear all day like you never stepped foot out of the office.  The only shoe capable of doing all this really well is now available from Astral.

After seventeen years of making innovative PFDs and paddling gear, Philip Curry, owner and founder of Astral, has introduced

an evolution in the art of product design by bringing a completely new and unique piece of footwear to the world.  The Brewer is a technical water shoe designed from the perspective of a Class-V whitewater kayaker, but there’s a huge difference in this shoe and every other water shoe or bootie on the market – you won’t look like a clown if you wear this shoe off the water.  In fact, the shoe is so cleverly designed that its style and fashion merits blended with its technical prowess make it positively different than any shoe available.

Five years ago Curry teamed up with Reglan Brewer, a seasoned footwear designer with roots in trail running, skate, outdoor and casual design.  After years of earnest deliberation, and with the help of Astral’s home-base team in Asheville NC, they have come up with something really special.  And, the top forty outdoor retailers in the country think so too.  See a list at bottom of some Southeast dealers who are currently offering the Brewer in their retail stores.
